Cookies and browser storage

Cookies are small values a site can ask a browser to store and send with later requests. PRE currently sets none. Browser localStorage and sessionStorage are different ways to keep values on your device; they can still fall under rules about storing or accessing information.

The entries below are set by PRE on this site. They are not third-party tracking tools. The storage values are not automatically sent with page requests, and the current site does not upload these stored values for analytics. The waitlist form sends the details you submit separately, as explained in the Privacy policy.

What the site stores

pre.waitlist
Provider: PRE. Type: localStorage. Stores done after a successful waitlist submission so this browser shows the completed state. The value contains no email address. Used on the home and shop pages. No automatic expiry is set.
pre.motion
Provider: PRE. Type: localStorage. Stores paused or running when you change the motion control. Used on the home, shop, checkout preview and questions pages. No automatic expiry is set.
pre.bag
Provider: PRE. Type: localStorage. Stores the preview bag’s product choices and quantities in a versioned list. Used on the shop and checkout preview pages. It does not place an order. No automatic expiry is set.
pre.commit
Provider: PRE. Type: sessionStorage. Stores whether you signed, the signature image as a PNG data URL if supplied, the time, confirmation that the terms were accepted and a version number. Used on the shop and checkout preview pages. Stored on this device only, cleared when you close the tab and never uploaded.
pre.offer
Provider: PRE. Type: localStorage. Remembers that you revealed the shop preview’s scratch-card offer, using a version number and a revealed flag. It contains no customer identifier. Used on the shop page. No automatic expiry is set.
pre.region
Provider: PRE. Type: localStorage. Stores the shopping country you confirm or choose, as its two-letter code (for example FR) with a confirmed flag and a version number. It sets the currency prices are shown in, and the site does not ask for your country again. It is also stored when you close the country question without answering (the suggested country is kept, if there is one) and when you open a link that names a country, such as ?region=FR. Used on every page. No automatic expiry is set.
pre.lang
Provider: PRE. Type: localStorage. Stores the code of the language the site is shown in, for example fr, so every page opens in that language. It is stored when you pick a language, whenever the country question stores a country, and when you open a link that names a language, such as ?lang=fr. Used on every page. No automatic expiry is set.
pre.introSeen
Provider: PRE. Type: sessionStorage. Stores 1 after the home introduction finishes, so returning to the home page in the same tab skips that introduction. It normally lasts for the tab’s browsing session; browser session restoration can preserve it.
pre.regionAsked
Provider: PRE. Type: sessionStorage. Stores 1 when the site asks for your shopping country and could not suggest one, so the question is not shown again in the same tab if you leave it unanswered. It contains no country and is removed when you choose one. Used on every page. It normally lasts for the tab’s browsing session; browser session restoration can preserve it.

localStorage entries remain until you clear the site’s data, the site replaces or removes them, or the browser removes them. Closing a tab alone does not normally clear localStorage. There is no stored account or payment session.

To suggest a country and a language on your first visit, the site reads your device’s time zone and your browser’s language settings. This happens only inside your browser: they are never sent to us. The country list, the time-zone table and the prices are downloaded from this site like its other files and are the same for every visitor. The text for the language shown comes from a separate file for each language (for example /assets/i18n/fr/common.json), so, like any file request, our host and our request log see which language file your browser loaded (see the Privacy policy). If your browser blocks storage, your choices are kept only while the page is open.

A consent banner is not needed for an essential-only service where every storage use qualifies for a legal exception. PRE currently shows no banner. Our draft approach is to keep storage limited to the site features described above, without analytics or tracking for advertising.

For the UK rules, see the ICO guidance on storage exceptions.

Your browser controls

Use your browser’s site settings to clear cookies and site data for this website. Your browser may also let you block site storage. Its help pages explain the controls available on your device.

Clearing this data resets the local waitlist confirmation, motion choice, preview bag, checkout preview commitment and signature, revealed offer, introduction state, shopping country and language, so the site asks for your country again. It does not delete a waitlist entry already submitted to us. For that, use the contact route in our Privacy policy.

You can change motion using the site’s motion control; your device’s reduced-motion preference is respected. You can change your shopping country with the country button at the bottom of each page and the language with the language button at the top. If storage is unavailable, choices may not persist, the introduction may replay and the country question may appear on each page you open.

If this changes

We will update this policy and its change log when the site’s storage changes. Any future storage that requires consent must stay off until you consent, with a way to change that choice.

Change log

Newest first

  • : Added the checkout preview commitment, signature and terms acceptance stored on this device as pre.commit.
  • : Kept Singapore PDPA wording conditional without assuming a Singapore-based founder. Updated the shipping, returns and refunds link.
  • : Added controller, representative and data protection contact decision fields, updated the translation notice and linked the legal notice.
  • : Replaced an outdated review reference with a link to the current explanation of why there is no banner.
  • : Contact addresses added.
  • : Corrected the first-visit explanation: the text for each language is a separate file, so our host and our request log see which language file your browser downloads. The time zone is still read only inside your browser.
  • : Added the sessionStorage key pre.regionAsked, which stops an unanswered country question from being shown again in the same tab when no country could be suggested.
  • : Added the country, currency and language choice: the localStorage keys pre.region and pre.lang, and how the time zone and browser language are read only inside your browser to suggest them. This page’s navigation and headings can now be shown in 12 languages; the policy text stays in English.
  • : First draft for the pre-launch site. Details will be reviewed before sales open.
